Many times we enthusiastically plan on embarking on new ventures, or investing in new projects–only to be warned by our hearts. Our hearts always find a way to alert us of a near future, and this is done through our feelings. I have made so many mistakes in the past every time I didn’t listen to my heart.
The challenge I offer you today is to listen to your heart in every venture you embark on for the next few days. Watch your feelings as you meet people. Check in to find out how you feel whenever you are about to make a decision. If a negative feeling envelops you before you make a decision, take time to examine if the feeling is based on fear or inspiration. If you listen to your heart, you will know where the feeling is coming from.
Remember, God is always talking to us; telling us what to do, or not to do, and guiding us through that soft, but confident voice that is always whispering to us through our hearts.

I joined Toastmasters International in February 2013. Today, after below two years, I’m a Qualified and Professional Speaker because I get paid to speak. Considering that there are millions of amazing speakers in the world today, I’m grateful for the opportunities that I have discovered. However, in spite of the gratitude, I realize that I had, and still have to bust my comfort zone, get myself out there and fearlessly offer myself to the world. Below are three of the steps I took to advance from amateur, to paid speaker.
I. I contacted public libraries and offered a month (once a week) of free public self-empowerment lectures.
This awarded me great exposure. After giving the first lecture, I received an invitation from a nearby safe-house to offer the same lectures. And although I still wasn’t paid, I was grateful that some other organization had recognized my passion.
2. I record my speeches whenever I can, and then post them on my social platforms. The likes and following I have received over the past months inspired me to set up my face book speakers’ page. This has got me to consistently search for fresh public speaking tips to entertain and educate my followers.
3. I signed up, and posted my profile on freespeakersbureau.org. I got 3 paid speaking gigs in the first month after signing up.
One of the most important lessons that I have learned is that the more I speak publicly, the better I get. My advice to you is that regardless of whether you want to become a public speaker or not, public speaking is paramount in introducing, and selling yourself and brand to the world. Learning how to express yourself confidently, and also present your products or services professionally is key to gaining a competitive edge in today’s market.

I’ve been an addict of networking for a couple of months since I discovered the related benefits for my business.
However, what happens in networking events is very fascinating. People present their best selves. Most dress well; have business cards to show off what they do, and attempt to speak to everyone in the group. What most don’t do is comprehend and utilize the first law of human nature–which is; “People don’t do what they don’t see a benefit in doing.” It is about the “What is in it for me” ideology. With that in mind, people tend to talk more about themselves and what they do, or how they can help others without really trying to find out about others: what makes them unique; what makes them feel special; or what makes them feel important. In summary, they don’t show interest in other people. Dale Carnegie in his book- “How to influence people and win friends” indicates that the best way to elicit other people’s interest is to show interest in them.
Below are first three steps that will help you benefit from business networking.
1. Show up feeling, and looking vibrant.
This means that you dress to influence, and express who you are, and your brand. This also implies that you find a way to dress up in colors that resonate with your product / service or company brand. Cleanse your mind of all negativity and self-criticism, and adopt a positive and happy attitude.
2. Carry enough business cards to give away.
Do not discriminate who you should give your business cards to. When you are giving out your business cards, ensure to connect to everyone one you give the cards to. Show keen interest in what they are doing by listening to what they have to say, and then share your business card.
3. Ask for their business cards before they offer them.
Don’t wait for them to hand them to you. That is a mind game that illustrates that you are interested in what they have to offer.
