The 7 Key Components of an Elevator Pitch – Part 1

elevator-pitch2

An elevator pitch, sometimes called a “15 or 30 second pitch or commercial,” enables listeners to become aware, relatively quickly, of specific, unique, and impressive attributes of your business that can contribute to their life or business. An elevator pitch is essentially a brief monologue describing the benefits of buying a particular product or service and why you are the perfect person to sell this product or service.

The term “elevator pitch” comes from the idea that, if you were introducing yourself to someone in an elevator, you would only have a few seconds to do so before the elevator stopped and either you, or the other person got off. Your monologue must, therefore, be brief, concise, right to the point, and at the same time, influential.

  1. Identify a Problem

The first step is to identify a problem that is worth solving. If your product or service doesn’t solve a problem that potential customers have, you don’t have a viable business. It’s that simple.

Note that you don’t have to be solving a massive problem where the solution will change the world. That’s great if you are tackling such a problem, but for most businesses, that’s not the reality. Problems can be simple, and that’s okay, as long as you as an entrepreneur, is solving a problem that customers have.

elevator-pitch4

Another simple way to identify the solutions that your product or services can provide to your customer is to establish the opposite of your defined benefits. For instance, I offer customized emotional freedom solutions. The related problem is emotional turmoil. So, in my elevator speech, I may use this problem in a statement: “Are you, or is anyone you know, experiencing emotional turmoil due to past or ongoing experiences? Does this emotional state affect your focus and productivity levels?”

It is also vital to distill your customer’s problem down to its simplest form. Ideally, you should be able to describe the problem you are solving in one or two sentences or potentially a few bullet points. In the long run, your company may solve multiple customer problems, but initially, you will be more successful if you just focus on one core problem.

Exercise

  1.  Write down at least 3 problems that your products or services can solve for your customers.
  2. Identify one core problem that you believe can be solved by your products or services.

In my new book, Communicating Your Way to Success, Master the Art of Persuasion, Positively Influence Others, Increase Sales, and Stand Out From the Crowd—being released end of the 3rd week of September, 2015, I go into detail about the art of persuasion, mind triggers, and Influential techniques for business owners. Look out for the book’s release.

Next week, I will share the 2nd component of an elevator speech.

3 Out-of-the box techniques to Get New Customers.

A business without customers is like a house without habitants. Regardless of how great or special your product or service is, if you don’t have people demanding it, it’s more or less valueless–unless of course you created it as a hobby. When our products or services are demanded, it implies that we are fulfilling people’s needs or wants. It makes our businesses alive, and our minds enthused with purposefulness. It is simple: without customers there is no business.

EmptyWallet-sm

The question is; what do you do on a daily or weekly basis to recruit new customers? Below are 3 techniques that I’ve successfully used to get new customers.

  1. Volunteering.

Volunteering, especially for causes related to our products or services, is an easy way to get your name out there. For instance: I offer free group counseling sessions to women in public libraries every two months. When the libraries are advertising my events, they create flyers with my name, qualifications and contact details and post them everywhere in the libraries, and on their websites. This doesn’t only build my SEO since my contact information is included on their big websites, but it’s also free advertising for my company.  If you have a LinkedIn account, sign up for volunteermatch.com and start volunteering at these big organizations. Even if they don’t hire your services, if you do your job well, at the very least you will get a good referral.

  1. Blogging:

I’ve discovered that so many businesspeople resent blogging. However, blogging is simple especially if you have a passion for what you do. All you have to do is write weekly on subjects related to your business—such as this one for my business. As a success coach, I offer sales success strategies to especially small business owners. What I’ve done in this blog is offer you some tips that could help you recruit new customers. If you get interested, which I know you will, you will check out my website (www.tapthegood.com) for more resources.  And that’s how it all begins.

  1. Host a “Wine and Peanuts” party.

People love free things. People love wine. Men love peanuts. 🙂 Host a party and include a raffle for guests to buy tickets to win complimentary services or products. However, don’t give away too much. If you are a service provider, offer no more than a 30 minutes complimentary session. Also, remember to have a guestbook to record their contact details. Ask them if it’s okay to email them periodical offers and/or free tips. Trust me; they will be okay with that. You’ve wined and fed them, and the law of reciprocity will naturally take effect.

How Powerful Are Your Words?

Joel Osteen once stated, “You can change your world by changing your words. Remember, life and death, are in the power of words.”

The power of words

Print and electronic communication emphasizes the former statement due to the fact that, in the communication process, words are written and presented for future reference. This presents a lot of evidence that could destroy or liberate not only business owners but also the world in general. Documents written centuries ago have been a point of reference for major disputes and wars in the world today. On the other hand, printed material in form of books has been used to educate, inspire and change mindsets of the world. This very fact presents a threat, rather than something to celebrate, on the possible dangers that print and/or electronic communications can create. Considering that spoken and unrecorded words or conversations can be easily forgotten, printed material, if not discarded, can exist as long as time itself.

words-hurt

It’s hence vital for business owners to pay close attention to their non-personal communication structures in order to avoid possible dangers and, most importantly, transfer their messages and achieve their objectives.

captivating speaker

Carol Burnett, an American actress, comedian, and singer, once stated that: “Words once printed, have a life of their own.” Today the number of businesses that lose millions of dollars due to bad communication structures is limitless.

Question:

Do you have a structured sales pitch that you can tweak to match your target audiences? I’m talking about that message that introduces you to your audience and elicits interest in them for you, and your business in just a few words. Regardless of your answer to the preceding question, I encourage you to take advantage of my 30 minutes’ complimentary session where I will help you design a captivating sales pitch or evaluate the one you have–if you do.

Going Through Hell? 5 Ways to Liberate Your Life:

Going through hell

Going through hell? Been there. There are times in my life when I felt as if I had a concrete and eternal contract with Satan himself. Everything in my world seemed to be crumbling. I took one step forward, and then 1000 steps backwards. There is nothing I did that made me feel happy or purposeful. I was eventually short of answers and tools to try and liberate my soul. I didn’t know what else to do. Suddenly, I stopped. I stopped searching; stopped looking for answers; and just lived every moment as it prevailed.

If you are experiencing havoc in your life, I hope the following 5 steps help you remember that every beginning has an end. As long as it is a challenge, it has a solution. There are no questions without answers.

  1. Wake up every morning and breathe deeply for at least 30 minutes. As you breathe, imagine that you are breathing in pure positive energy, and breathing out all the negativity.

 Breathe1

  1. As you take a shower, repeat the statement; “I release all that no longer serve me”— over and over again until you are done with the shower.

 Release

  1. During the day when worries and sadness creep in, breathe deeply. Imagine that you are breathing in a white healing light from God, and breathing out all that no longer serve you.

 Light of God

  1. Drink a lot of water. And as you ease yourself, repeat the statements; “I’m releasing all that no longer serve me.”

 drinking water

  1. Before you go to bed, say out loud, “From this very moment, and as I sleep tonight, my unconscious mind is liberating my spirit, freeing my mind, empowering my soul, and branding me to live a full life.”

Affirmations

I encourage you to go through this exercise for as long as you can, at least until you feel better about your life. Remember that the answers we seek are all engrained inside of us.

The Biggest Mistake That Business People Make:

The biggest mistake that wedge us from achieving what we want for our businesses and lives is NOT SETTING CLEAR GOALS.

   goals

How do we expect our brains to focus on finding the right resources without giving them the directions they need to take us where we want to go?

 directions 2

How do we expect to get somewhere without knowing where we are going?

 lost

It’s funny, because we set goals every day. We know that when we jump into our vehicles, we set goals to get somewhere at a particular time, and for a particular reason—whatever that could be.

goals are good

  1.  Why then do we find it hard to set concrete and realistic goals for our businesses?

  2.  What do you think blocks you from setting those goals, and then developing the strategies you need to help you get there?

As you ponder on the above question, I have a resource for you. As a Success Coach, I have some great and unique personalized tools that we can employ to help you set articulate, clear and realistic goals.

I know What you are Going Through:

6 Steps to Retrieve Sustainable Success:

Jail

It is common that whenever we are experiencing some discomforts in our lives, we state that “we are going” through some stuff. What is so great about the previous statement are the words “going through.” This implies that we are resolving the prevailing issues and moving towards our desired futures. However, it is easier said than done. “Going through” things for some people, might mean “going through a numbing process.” And what I mean by “numbing” is when people are investing in the denial process—where our negative emotions and fears are stored in ignorance of the consequences. What is depressing about this process is that these negative emotions never go away. We have to do the work to dissolve the negative emotions, and/or negative programming before we can be able to install the good inner stuff.

 eagle-self-limiting-beliefs

Below, are six steps that will help you start letting go of the unwanted programming in order to install new positive inner programs that will upgrade your live.

 Limiting-Belief-203x203

  1. List three self-limiting beliefs that you have about yourself.

  2. List three self-limiting beliefs that you have about money, success and/or your business?

  3. List three reasons why you think these self-limiting beliefs are serving you.

  4. List five reasons why you should let go of these beliefs.

  5. Explain how you think you will feel when you let go of these beliefs.

  6. Read the answers to question 5 every morning and evening for the next 5 days.

 break free

Remember that the mindsets that land us in the messes we find ourselves into, can never be the mindsets that get us out. We have to let go of who we are for who we want to become. We have to make the changes, or our situations will stay the same. Fortunately, we have the power of choice to tap into in order to either upgrade, or retard our lives.

 Limiting beliefs

I also understand that counseling and success coaching can be expensive: Reason as to why I have put together an online Life Liberation and Success Coaching program, discounted to help as many people as possible; easy to use in the comfort of your home, and most importantly, affordable.
