Are You 100% Free to Be What You Want to Be?

Some philosophers have argued that we are not totally free to be who want to be. What we think is freedom is merely being free to express ourselves as predetermined by our earlier and continuous programming. Due to the fact that being free means being happy and content with wherever and whatever one is, we tend to mistake settling for what is available, for authentic contentment. We forget that if we are unaware of other realities we have nothing to compare with. As such we regard our present reality as the real deal. Furthermore, because we are deeply programmed to believe and be a certain way, we conclude that this is the best we can be or do. We settle for beliefs  and lives that are not organically our own.

For instance, as I child, I was told, and I believed that if a woman rode a bike they would never get married. Because riding a bike compromised being feminine. Today, I’m still struggling to learn how to ride a bike–upon discovering that getting married has nothing to do with riding a bike. 🙂 
Limiting-Beliefs

That’s one of many beliefs that I was exposed to as a child, and I have had to examine, question and change my beliefs every so often in order to discover if they are regressing or progressing me.

The question is: Which of your beliefs are promoting your life?

Note that it takes more than wishful thinking to examine all our beliefs in order to originate beliefs and ways of living that are organically our own. Note that everytime someone starts questioning the general status quo, they are isolated, rejected if not killed. They are thrown out of the crowd. Think about people like, Martin Luther King, Jr, Jesus, the Christ–to mention a few.

So, if you want to create a reality that is organically your own, you have to step away from the crowds, follow your bliss and inner guidance, question everything, be open to everything, yet attached to nothing. You also have to be willing to be alone in order to find your authentic-self.  However, the benefits are inexhaustible.

Do you Feel like you are Running Around in Circles?


There are times when we all feel so overwhelmed about life–when everything we do does not yield the results that we desire. During such times, we may feel as though the devil itself has binoculars on our lives.

I have experienced periods in my life when I felt as though I was moving against the wind. Everything seemed to break down. There was conflict surrounding me. Every action took me face to face with failure. I felt as though I was locked up behind a thick high wall with nowhere to go. I felt as if I was literally running around in circles–like a dog chasing its own tail. No amount of positive thinking made things better. Regardless of how hard and deeply I thought, no new information or ideas popped up in my mind as solutions. Even when I meditated and prayed for hours, I still felt a deep sense of emptiness and sadness.

Below are some of the steps that I have taken—things that have helped me get a new grip of my life.

1. Write down your goals.

2. Perform a situation analysis of your life; the steps you’ve been taking towards achieving your goals, the skills you have employed, plans, strategies, weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats.

2. Evaluate your successes and failures for the last 60 days.

3. STOP. Stop and relax. Stop making any major plans, taking any major actions or even expecting anything—good or bad to happen. Become a witness of your life. Observe. I know this might sound so hard to do, but if you have been taking a lot of action and seeing no results, then there is something missing. During such times, it also implies that we are not listening to our inner voice for direction or alerts.

4. Spend some time with yourself–at least 3 hours a day especially if you work for yourself. If you are employed and have to appear at a job every day, you can still become a witness of your own life by excluding judgement of others and the entire job situation. This might also mean that you don’t talk about your concerns with anyone. You are present at the job and doing what you have to do, but mindfully absent. I hope you understand what I mean. It’s about becoming laid back for a set period of time.

When we stop and do nothing major, we reduce the noises in our minds. This is when we get to hear the voice of God that is always existent at the back of our minds.

1. Tell us about yourself and what you do.

I was born in Seattle Washington. When I was five yrs old, my parents moved to Rochester New York. After a few years living in New York, I decided to go to Orlando, Florida, a sunny place, with better weather where I could pursue my comedy and acting career. After living in Florida for 4 yrs, I learned that the television and film industry in Miami was blooming. So I moved to Miami and lived there for six yrs.

In 1998, I moved to Los Angeles to further my career in Acting and Comedy. I have lived in Los Angles for the past 15 yrs.

I am an actor and comedian. I love Stand-up comedy; and have been doing that for over 20 yrs. I also produce webi-sodes and pod-casts.   Additionally, I am an author of a motivational-spiritual book titled–“What’s a Little Wind?”

 2. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I have always wanted to write. I started by writing Jokes for my comedy routine with impressions, then a sitcom. I then realized that I really wanted to write a book about my life that would also inspire, and empower others. This is when I embarked on writing the book, What’s a Little Wind?” 

3. What do you think is unique about you as an author? What makes you stand out in the crowd of authors?

Having grown up in the 1960s and 70s, I understand the social positive structures and norms that made life fun and refreshing back then. This is some of what I embrace in my writing. I also blend in my humor and old fashioned values that everyone can relate to- especially in this era where technology is taking over humility and personable communication, in a world bombarded with negativity.

4. What inspired you to write this book?

I went to a motivational seminar by Joel Bauer in July 2013 where he indicated that everyone has a book in them. So I thought about it, and a month later I tapped into my creativity and started writing the book. And I have to admit that writing this book has been one of the most inspiring things that I’ve done in my life.

5How long did it take you to write this book?

4 months.

6. When did you publish this book?

 I self-published it in March 2014 through CreateSpace.

7. Who did you write this book for?

I wrote the book for anyone who is looking for empowerment, inspiration, and real-life stories to relate to.  

8Why do you think people should buy this book?

Since the book shares real life experiences of people who have gone through hard times, this book is written to inspire, empower and upgrade people’s lives. The book is very relate-able; which makes it easy for my readers to comprehend the fact that everything is about perception; and happiness is a choice that we can all make.
