3 Out-of-the box techniques to Get New Customers.

A business without customers is like a house without habitants. Regardless of how great or special your product or service is, if you don’t have people demanding it, it’s more or less valueless–unless of course you created it as a hobby. When our products or services are demanded, it implies that we are fulfilling people’s needs or wants. It makes our businesses alive, and our minds enthused with purposefulness. It is simple: without customers there is no business.

The question is; what do you do on a daily or weekly basis to recruit new customers? Below are 3 techniques that I’ve successfully used to get new customers.

  1. Volunteering.

Volunteering, especially for causes related to our products or services, is an easy way to get your name out there. For instance: I offer free group counseling sessions to women in public libraries every two months. When the libraries are advertising my events, they create flyers with my name, qualifications and contact details and post them everywhere in the libraries, and on their websites. This doesn’t only build my SEO since my contact information is included on their big websites, but it’s also free advertising for my company.  If you have a LinkedIn account, sign up for volunteermatch.com and start volunteering at these big organizations. Even if they don’t hire your services, if you do your job well, at the very least you will get a good referral.

  1. Blogging:

I’ve discovered that so many businesspeople resent blogging. However, blogging is simple especially if you have a passion for what you do. All you have to do is write weekly on subjects related to your business—such as this one for my business. As a success coach, I offer sales success strategies to especially small business owners. What I’ve done in this blog is offer you some tips that could help you recruit new customers. If you get interested, which I know you will, you will check out my website (www.tapthegood.com) for more resources.  And that’s how it all begins.

  1. Host a “Wine and Peanuts” party.

People love free things. People love wine. Men love peanuts. 🙂 Host a party and include a raffle for guests to buy tickets to win complimentary services or products. However, don’t give away too much. If you are a service provider, offer no more than a 30 minutes complimentary session. Also, remember to have a guestbook to record their contact details. Ask them if it’s okay to email them periodical offers and/or free tips. Trust me; they will be okay with that. You’ve wined and fed them, and the law of reciprocity will naturally take effect.

How to Influence and Captivate an Audience:

Audience

So many people begin with their own agendas as they communicate. Since they normally have something to say or prove, they deliver their messages without considering the person they are communicating with.

More often than not, they simply broadcast their message, as they assume that people will think it is the most important information in the world. On the other hand, good communicators know that people won’t start listening unless they connect intellectually and emotionally. The idea is to know your audience and start by conveying an emotional anecdote that shows your common perspective.

But how do you start?

In this article, I share two tips that will get you started.

  1. Know yourself.

         know yourself

Dig deep to establish what makes you feel good about yourself, your confidence and self-esteem levels, your core message, and objectives. Remember that if you feel good about yourself, and your message, this will show in the way you deliver the message, and ultimately influence the reactions from your target audience.

  1. Know your audience.

Know your audience

Before you address your audience, take time to find out the general attributes they share. For instance: if your target audience is a business oriented community, find out whether they are small business owners or employed; if they are just starting out as business owners, or already established; what their major challenges are; the dominant sex in the audience, etc. Although people’s interests and expectations in an audience vary, do the best you can to find out their commonalities and formulate your presentation with that information in mind.

How Logical are we? And what has Logic got to do With our Businesses?

Decision making

As human beings, we all like to think that we are logical especially when we are making decisions. We like to think that we scrutinize and evaluate the information we are given and then ultimately make logical decisions based on our evaluations. However, in reality, human beings very rarely make decisions based on logic alone. Most of the time, our decision-making processes take place without us even realizing it. Based on the fact that we are living in the age of information, there is just not enough time for us to really evaluate every single bit of information that we perceive, and then make decisions accordingly.

Mind

Although this might sound corny, but thinking is hard work. That’s why most people don’t really think. If we are to think about everything that has to be thought about all the time, then we expose ourselves to exhaustion. Apparently, we have to think about what we are going to wear, what to do for the day, at work, what we are going to do with our lives, how we are going to achieve our goals, our challenges, victories, relatives, businesses, etc. Now, that’s a lot to take in. There are so many things in life to think about. And to ponder on every single decision that we are going to make is almost impossible. Consequently, we’ve developed mental shortcuts that appear as preconceived ideas about what we believe or how we believe certain things should be.

Business

What has this got to with your business or even the art of persuasion? Ponder on these concepts. 🙂

In my new book that’s almost done, Communicate Your Way to The Bank: Master the Art of Persuasion, Positively Influence others, Increase Sales, and Stand out in Your Crowd, among other thingsI go into depth to explain how the mind works, and what triggers people to make especially buying decisions. I will be posting more tips and details about the book as the release date gets close.

The Biggest Mistake That Business People Make:

The biggest mistake that wedge us from achieving what we want for our businesses and lives is NOT SETTING CLEAR GOALS.

   goals

How do we expect our brains to focus on finding the right resources without giving them the directions they need to take us where we want to go?

 directions 2

How do we expect to get somewhere without knowing where we are going?

 lost

It’s funny, because we set goals every day. We know that when we jump into our vehicles, we set goals to get somewhere at a particular time, and for a particular reason—whatever that could be.

goals are good

  1.  Why then do we find it hard to set concrete and realistic goals for our businesses?

  2.  What do you think blocks you from setting those goals, and then developing the strategies you need to help you get there?

As you ponder on the above question, I have a resource for you. As a Success Coach, I have some great and unique personalized tools that we can employ to help you set articulate, clear and realistic goals.

You can also contact me for a 30 minutes complimentary success coaching session.

It’s as simple as sending me an email at author@tapthegood.com with the subject line – “Goals” and I will respond within 24 hours.
