Do You Really Love Yourself?


“Do you really love yourself?” asked my mother a few months ago. “Of course I do. How can you even ask such a question?” I responded. However, while alone I re-evaluated her question. Did I really truly love myself?

She asked me that question because I was complaining about a racism experience I had gone through. She urged me to focus on what was important…myself. But I didn’t really get it. I felt the need to blame the people who had racially harassed me. I felt entitled to continue pointing out the wrong they had done. And although what they had done wasn’t positive, I was doing more harm to myself. I was so focused on what was wrong, what had happened in the past and how bad these people had been to me. I put my attention on what hadn’t worked and continued to re-live it even when it had happened in the past. I hurt every day. I was literally carrying emotional baggage that was weighing me down. It struck me then that I wasn’t loving myself.

So, what negative experiences/stories are you carrying around? Are you 100% focused on yourself, or you are so busy focusing on your past ? What do you focus on most of the day? What do you think about? Are your thoughts energizing or weakening? When is the last time you did something good for yourself without feeling guilty? And I am not referring to doing something nice to your car or house, impressing your boss or loved ones.

I am referring to more intimate things such as, taking a nap, listening to your favorite music without doing anything else, stretching, doing yoga, eating right, drinking 8 glasses of water daily, meditating, going for a walk, going for a random ride, closing your eyes and doing nothing, forgiving yourself and others, having a long bath, taking time to scrub your body with a beautiful body scrub (whether you are man or woman), reading a self-help book, focusing on finding out who is the one behind those beautiful eyes of yours.

Do you really love yourself? What do you allow into your mind? Who do you allow into your space? What are your inner conversations about yourself? How do you feel about yourself?

Don’t wait for Valentine’s day to love yourself, express this love to others or long to attract love. When you love yourself unconditionally and consistently, you never have to search or expect others to love you. You will know once and for all that you are enough. And most importantly, with unconditional self-love you will project the same in your experiences.

How to Attract True Unconditional Love – With Guided Prayer/meditation

“Why do I keep attracting douche-bags?” I asked my grandmother. Apparently, I had been in many failing relationships, attracting the same man in different bodies.

For many years, every man I attracted had some, if not all the following characteristics: Addictions of some sort, laziness, abusive, a cheater, low self-esteem, never available, acute behavioral disorders—to mention but a few. I was in awe of how I ended up with men who were the opposite of what I wanted to attract. At one point, my grandmother told me that everything I saw in these men reflected on my inner conditioning. “You identify each other because you feed on each other’s energetic blue print,” she said. Then I thought she was tripping. I didn’t have an addictive personality. I was very hardworking and as far as I knew, I was sane. So, what did I have in common with these men? It took years before I could appreciate the truth in my grandmother’s wisdom. Now as a counselor, I know that we attract who are.

How Can You Attract True Unconditional Love?

Whether you are already in a relationship or searching for one, the status of your relationship reflects on who you are at some level. If your partner disrupts your peace and/or happiness, note that you are responsible for all your negative emotions. You are responsible for all your experiences. Nothing keeps you in an unhappy relationship except your own insecurities and conditioning. All the reasons you have for remaining in a bad relationship are just escapes from the core truth: the truth that you believe you don’t deserve better.

If you are single and can’t attract love, it is all you in your energetic, spiritual, emotional or mental conditioning. Note that at the core, we are energy. Our energy blue prints impact our experiences. We metaphysically overflow from within to the external world. Our outer world perfectly mirrors our inner worlds. Whatever, and how we perceive and/or experience things is a reflection of our conditioning plus the stories, associations, relationships and definitions dwelling in our inner worlds. The question then is, how do we resolve this conditioning to attract true love? Below are 3 tips to get you started.

  1. Take full responsibility of your situation. Know that your situation is your own creation. Know that you can never get what you want you only get who you are. So, take it upon yourself to invest in identifying the conditioning within you that retracts true love from your experience.
  2. Love yourself unconditionally. This means that you take time to nourish your mind, body and spirit. Put yourself first and the world will put you first. Love yourself unconditionally and you will attract the same. This will take forgiving yourself, accepting who you are… in all ways; cleaning your environment. (Donating or throwing away old stuff you haven’t used in the last 6 months; letting go of relationships that hold you back or those that do not support your well being; clearing your living and working space of all clutter.)
  3. Go within, connect to your Higher-self and ask for guidance of how you can let go of the negative conditioning that prevents you from attracting true love. Note that you need discipline in order to connect to your Higher-self. This takes meditation on a daily basis.

Many times we enthusiastically plan on embarking on new ventures, or investing in new projects–only to be warned by our hearts. Our hearts always find a way to alert us of a near future, and this is done through our feelings. I have made so many mistakes in the past every time I didn’t listen to my heart.

The challenge I offer you today is to listen to your heart in every venture you embark on for the next few days. Watch your feelings as you meet people. Check in to find out how you feel whenever you are about to make a decision. If a negative feeling envelops you before you make a decision, take time to examine if the feeling is based on fear or inspiration. If you listen to your heart, you will know where the feeling is coming from.

Remember, God is always talking to us; telling us what to do, or not to do, and guiding us through that soft, but confident voice that is always whispering to us through our hearts.

You are more than Human: YOU ARE DIVINE


I have been taught that to be spiritual, I have to transcend the human experience.

 The intention of my teachers was to get me to get rid of my human part in order to become divine and nothing else.  Little did I know that there is no divine without the human; the two are actually one. It is just two different ways of seeing the very same substance.

Apparently, the divine is the essential, the fundamental, the un-manifest. The human is simply the divine when it appears as a form.The human is what the invisible divine looks like in a form. Therefore, we are not just human; we are also divine.

 The problem is that, with all the layers and beliefs that envelop us humans through our experiences, we are blocked from our connection to our divine-selves. The way to release the clutter, let go of the unwanted, dissolve the lies, is to take full responsibility of our liberation, and take back our power.

Become Positively Selfish

Often, we all focus too much on other people’s needs, problems, progress, etc, yet forget our own issues that could need urgent consideration. We then find ourselves so stressed out about other people’s issues, and ironically, ours.

There are times when we’ve got to become positively selfish; meaning that we give ourselves guilty-free permission to focus on ourselves.

In the preceding process, we need to examine our physical, emotional and spiritual beings in order to establish where we need to stretch and heal; or how we can change and grow. Once we are done examining these areas of our lives, we then discover that we actually don’t have a lot of time dealing with other people’s businesses. Also, considering that the better we become, the more attractive we become to ourselves and to the outside world, it is imperative to take time out for ourselves.

So, how do you become positively selfish?

  1. Establish how you can improve your physical, emotional and spiritual states.
  2. Start out by exercising for at least 20 minutes a day. Remember that exercising releases endorphins that reduce stress.Image
  3. Come up with a simple daily to-do list that indicates the things that you will do to improve or elevate your emotional and spiritual statesImage
  4. Spend at least 10 minutes a day, less of interruptions such as TV, cell phones, and think about the things that you WANT to happen in your life.
  5. ImageRead an empowerment or self-help book for at least 15 minutes every night before you go to sleep. Try Do Not Force It, Tap The Good: an inspirational philosophical book that shares lessons the whole world can live by. Image

You can take charge of your life my friend by focusing on yourself. Remember that we all deserve to be on top of our game.
