7 Steps to Un-hack the Brain From Illusion

What would you refer to as an illusion?

In my opinion an illusion is a false impression, a lie, a misinterpretation of something that’s perceived as something else. When I think about my mind and brain, illusions seem to happen more often than not especially when I’m everywhere else but in the present moment. Sometimes I come up with inner-stories to support situations, only to find out later that my thoughts were delusional—lies that only entertained my mind with negativity. With time, this has helped me understand that thoughts can manipulate our brains to develop mental routines that at times do not serve our well-being.

“Thoughts can manipulate our brains to develop mental routines that at times do not serve our well-being.”

The point is, the brain uses about 20% of the body’s total energy—and that’s a lot of energy. For that very reason the brain attempts, if we let it, to keep us protected and safe as it saves its energy. This can also imply that the brain resists change. So, if we get into a routine, the brain holds onto that routine whether it serves us or not. That’s why we resist change. That’s why routine is easier than exploration or adventure, especially if that’s what one has fed their brain with for a while.

Brain

“The good news is that since we are not our brains, we can control, retrain, redirect and refocus it to snap out of the routines that no longer serve us.”

In this article, I share my experience on how the brain gets into a negative inward spiral—the illusion, and then share 7 steps on how we can un-hack the brain from this illusion.

Background:

Let’s imagine that something unfavorable happens in your experience. You start thinking about the event, and then develop feelings about it. Normally these are feeling of anger, disappointment, sadness, rage, bitterness or the like.

As you dwell more on the event, the brain begins taking note of the related frequencies that correspond to your emotions. Then, the brain starts recruiting similar events from your memory or environment. This is when you start thinking about things that went wrong in the past and how horrible they made you feel; plus the possibility of these events re-occurring in the future. Before you know it, the brain starts identifying triggers in your environment. And this is when you embark on noticing people or situations that accumulate negative feelings in you. One thing leads to another, and you find your mind trapped in a negative thinking spiral. If you don’t snap out of it, the brain turns this mental behavior into a routine. Then, you become a prominent negative thinker. What do you do?

The 7 Steps to Un-hack the Brain From Illusion:

  1. Check in With Your Feelings.

If you feel stressed, bitter or any other negative emotions, know that the brain is up to something negative. Remember, our feelings are the thermometers of our thoughts. If you are experiencing negative emotions chances are that you are thinking about negative situations.

  1. Become a Witness of These Thoughts.

Once you realize that you are going into a negative thinking spiral, use your mind to become a witness of these thoughts. In your mind’s eye watch the thoughts as they come and go. Don’t attach to them.

  1. Tell Your Brain to Stop Focusing on The Negative

Remember that you are more than your brain. You own the brain, it doesn’t own you: so you can command it to do as you please.

  1. Breathe in deeply, as you imagine that your in-breath is bringing in divine light at a 360 degrees angle. Imagine being infused with divine healing light. Let this light penetrate every inch of your being, and then outflow to fill your aura and space where you are seated. Keep breathing deeply for about 10 minutes. This technique will help you get your mind out of the negative spiral.
  2. Block The Trigger Portals.

For instance, if watching negative news on television triggers negative emotions in you, don’t watch television for awhile until you are in control of your emotions. In any case, you shouldn’t be watching negative news. It’s bad for the mind.  🙂

  1. Look at Your “Desire list.”

This is a list you make for everything you want. You keep adding items or experiences that you want or desire as they pop up in your mind. Then start searching for their cost and including it on the list. This will help you get busy dwelling on what you want, whether you have the money or not. If you don’t have a “Desire list” it is time for you to create one.

  1. Stand Under a Shower.

Stand under the shower and let the water run down on you. Stay in the shower for at least 5 minutes as you breathe deeply. Repeat mentally, “Release, release, release” and imagine all the negativity and unwanted energy leaving your body, mind and spirit. Also, imagine that your brain is being washed, cleansed, renewed and purified.

Conclusion:

Remember that we are more than our bodies plus all its organs. We have the power to regulate our minds and brains, and tell them what they should dwell on. We are in control of our emotions. We are divine instructions created in the very image of God—meaning that we can create better experiences for our lives if we choose to.

How to Raise your Vibration Above Negativity:

I’m sure that you’ve been hearing it everywhere. Our vibrations, or the pattern of our thoughts, attitudes and actions, are what create our realities. If we want to change what we experience then we need to change our vibrations. There are a million ways to do this but here’s an exercise that that has stood out for me.

  1. Every morning before you get out of bed, lie down straight facing up. Uncross your arms and legs to let the energy flow freely. Place your palms next to your thighs.

  2. Close your eyes and breathe deeply.

  3. As you breathe in, imagine that you are breathing in pure positive energy, and breathing out all the negativity.

  4. Go through the exercise for at least 5 minutes.

  5. At the end of the breathing exercise, imagine a pink light penetrating your body through the top of your head. Imagine the light spreading to every inch of your being—from your brain to your toes. Then, imagine a white light surrounding your body.

  6. Take another deep breath and say this statement. “I seal this process with divine love and wisdom.”

If you do this every day, you will notice positive changes in your experiences.

Tip 2: for the Preparation of March 1st: – The Global Worry-Free Day:

ImagePlease refer to the list you made yesterday of the things that worry you.

For each of the things that worry you, and their reasons, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Is this true?  Be honest with yourself. Answers such as “but”, “maybe” or “however”, aren’t valid to this question. The only valid answers are, “yes” or “no.” If your answer is “yes”, justify it by giving reasons. If your answer to this question is “no”, then move to question 3.
  2. Is this really the truth? Remember you cannot base on your past or other people’s stories to determine whether whatever you are worrying about is true or false.  For instance; if you are worried about a bill because you don’t know how you are going to pay for it; or don’t think you will get the money to pay for it, not knowing and/or uncertainty does not imply that this is the “truth”. It simply means that you don’t know, or you are not sure how things are going to materialize. The future is uncertain. The past doesn’t mean the future. So, the only truth we know is what is happening now. There is a bill to pay means just that. Everything else you come up with to validate your worry is a story, belief or memory-based.
  3. What feelings come up if whatever you are worrying about could be true? Write these down.  Do you realize that before you read this question, you were not in touch with those feelings? This implies that there is a part of you that is free from this worry and the related emotions.
  4. How would you feel if whatever you are worrying about wasn’t the truth? Write these down. As you answer this question you will realize how easy it is to shift from negative emotions to positive ones.
  5. Spend the rest of the day focusing on the emotions that you would have if whatever you are worried about wasn’t the truth. By doing this, you will be exercising your mind to focus on the good rather than the negative.

Let me know how it goes.

These concepts are based on Katie Byron’s powerful healing method called “The Work.” What I challenge you to do is give yourself permission to tackle each of your worries and answer these questions unlimitedly. Once you do the work, you will realize how easy it is to achieve emotional freedom.

The Love Day: The 5 Steps to Achieving Absolute Self-love:

Image

Apparently, according to our social structures, love day is a day away. Interesting, right?  Does this imply that the remaining 364 days are hate days? What happens during these days? Are we supposed to save our love-related behavioral traits for 2/14? Are we expected to restrict our hearts for feeling love and doing things that reflect that, just to save the cream for the Love Day Theme? What are we supposed to do during the Hate Days?

In my opinion, we’ve mastered the attitudes and actions to take during the 364 Hate Days. We kill, conflict, prepare for war, steal, spam, trick, and do all the hate related activities around the clock. It is funny-because even on Valentine’s Day, a day that humanity has saved for love, we still do hateful things.

The next question then is; what can we do to feel and practice love 24/7, 365.5 days a year…every time, all the time? With all the negativity going around like a dangerous flu, how do we survive hate for ourselves, others and everything in our environment?

To achieve this, I have put together a 5 step proven process that will help one not only heal from self-hate and self-sabotage, but also help them achieve sustainable love for themselves and others.

Step 1: Acknowledge that the greatest love of all is loving yourself. We all have to remember that our experiences are determined by our internal dialogues. Whatever we feel inside, is what we offer to the world. When you have absolute love for the self, this is exactly what you radiate to the world.

2.  Take 100% responsibility of your emotional baggage

This will help you initiate and succeed at the forgiveness process. When you realize that no one owes you anything, and that you owe yourself the focus and related actions to heal your life, then, and only then, can you gain back your self-power.

3. Build sustainable self-standards.

This is self explanatory.  Set standards below which you won’t serve, receive, give, experience or relate. We have to remember that we are the navigation systems of our lives.

4. Nourish your spiritual being.

You can do this through meditation, prayer or whatever else your spiritual/religious preferences advocate for in order to maintain a sense of peace and faith in a higher power within you.

5.  Accept change as part of evolution.

This will help one maintain unconditional self-love regardless of external occurrences. No change or event will derail one’s high regard or love for themselves if they understand that change is part of progress.

Happy Love day; and I hope this positively shifts you or someone you know.

How to cleanse oneself from negativity:

Image

In my previous article, I suggested a few things that one can do to get rid of negativity. Once he/she has cleansed his/her mind of all the vampiring memories and/or feelings, it is time to deal with the spiritual and physical bodies.

The spiritual body is one that connects us to our God-sense. I guess you have heard the saying that the kingdom of God dwells within us. It is vital to establish and maintain a “healthy” and ongoing relationship with your God-self. This implies that you develop a sense of faith, that there is something bigger than you, and every human.  Once one surrenders his/her worries or concerns to that mighty being, he/she submits well knowing that “God” will take care of him/her. This emphasizes a worry-free life and promotes relaxation, positivity and happiness.

However, it takes consistent prayer, affirmations and meditation. It also requires one to be grounded, meaning that he/she gets his/her mind to a state of absolute calm; whereby he/she views the world and its occurrences as a witness. It implies that he/she observes situations without judgment, until he/she has precisely thought through what to say, and/or do.

Nourishing the spiritual body is a challenge because of the constant negativity that bombards our world. However, the determination and focus to remain in constant touch with one god-self, is without its benefits.

Some of the steps one would take are listed below.

–          Meditate at least once a day.

–          Get a journal and write your experiences daily. This will ensure that your mind is vacuumed on a daily basis.

–          Forgive yourself and others who have wronged you, on a daily basis.

–          Be grateful for all the good things in your life every day. Write down at least 10 things you are grateful for.

–          Breathe deeply all the time, which will keep you calm and focused.

–          Focus on what you want regardless of how often the things you don’t want show up.

–          Always remember that you are not alone. You are connected to the Universal Mind, whose kingdom dwells within you. So lean on that. Learn how to surrender, well knowing that all is well.

–          Most importantly, before you leave your house every morning, image a white light surrounding you, and mentally tell yourself that, “I am surrounded by bubbles of pure positive energy that melt away every and all negativity.”

Next week I will write about how to cleanse one’s mind, soul and spirit.

How to get rid of negativity.

Image

After confirming that you have negative energy impacting your life, it is important to rectify its source. Once the source is established, then it is easier to disconnect yourself from its influences.

Negativity being such a huge field with different origins, it impacts our lives differently. Note that if this negativity is rooted in a simple situation of wrongful thinking or consistent worry, it is easier to deal with.  However if it is originating from external forces, fields, beings or energies, then it takes more vigor and skill to get rid of.  External sources could be those fed by evil people who either send out negative thoughts, or actually make an effort to practice witchcraft. This is when things get a bit complicated.

In this article, I will tackle the issue of dealing with negative energy that originates from oneself through activities, such as wrongful thinking, worry, doubt, deceit, laziness and anything else that is self created.

To completely eradicate this kind of energy, one still has to find its causes.

The first step is to ask yourself what ignites your wrongful thinking, worry, doubt, fear and whatever else is negative. Remember that being honest with yourself is vital to your healing. Also, considering the fact that the mind enjoys and tends to hold onto pity, worry and any other negative feelings it has been entertained with for a while, one should take time to really dig deep and establish the core of the problem. It might take time to get to the root of things; however repetition creates expertise when embraced with focus.

Once the cause or source of one’s negativity is established, then he/she has to ascertain why he/she keeps dwelling on it. For example; I was once racially harassed at a job, and because I didn’t deal with its impact at the emotional level, I went around thinking that everyone of a different race from mine was harassing me. Even when they were nice and friendly, a voice in my head kept screaming, “pretenders.”  Due to this belief, I lost a lot of friends because I always expected the worst. I thought everyone I met had an intention to harass or discriminate me in some way. This kept me worried all the time.  Then, I hated meeting new people for the fear of being exposed to discrimination.  I underestimated the impact of my previous experience and what it did to my mind. Apparently, evidently, I let my past experience build a firm belief in my mind that kept me negative and resentful.  It is only when I sort spiritual counseling that the healer dealt with my beliefs and helped me get rid of them.

If you are in a similar situation, these are some of the steps you can take to rid yourself off the negativity.

–          After establishing the cause of this negativity, go within and forgive yourself. Tell yourself several times that “I forgive and love myself unconditionally.” You could do this every morning or night while taking a shower or whenever you get a moment alone during day. It is advisable to exercise this for a minimum of nine days.

–          Get time alone, no cell phones, no television, and no interruptions. Get a piece of pen and paper and write a letter to the person or situation that created that negative belief. Remember that this letter shouldn’t be sent. Rather, use it to download every negative memory in your mind. It is okay to feel emotional as you write the letter.  The point is to write everything you want to tell this person or situation without holding anything back. After writing the letter, put it aside for a maximum of 4 hours; read it again and then burn it. As you do this, talk to the situation or person as if they are sitting on the top of the letter“I have removed you from my conscious and subconscious mind, and now I am burning you out my life. You are smoke and ashes and no more in my life, tell it.  You may wanna do this for a couple of days until you have nothing more to write about regarding the situation.

–          The next step is to light up a couple of white candles (number of candles doesn’t matter), sit in front of them for a few minutes and visualize a white light surrounding you and cleansing all your energies, mind, spirit and body.  Leave the candles to burn out and before you go to bed that night, say “thank you” to yourself.

In the next article I will continue with more suggestions about how to block oneself from negative energy.
