Are You Positively or Negatively Disciplined?

You might be wondering how discipline can be negative or positive, or how this content can benefit you. However just like all other inner powers that we possess, discipline is susceptible to the law of duality. You can use it to upgrade or degrade your life.

To elaborate on this point further, I will pose a few questions for you to ponder. The questions are;

  1. Have you ever been so disciplined about anything yet failed to achieve your desired goal?
  2. What was your inspiration? Meaning, what drove you into disciplining yourself? Was it pain, fear of losing more of what you had, fear of other negative things happening, or was it the forecasted pleasure you believed was part of the result you sought?
  3. Would it have been “resistance” that drove your discipline?

If you were driven by pain, pleasure or fear, and failed, chances are that your actions didn’t add up to what was required. So, although you were disciplined you were probably not clear about what you really wanted, or maybe this is not what you really wanted–which attitude was reflected in your performance. Furthermore, when discipline is driven by resistance, chances are that the results are unsustainable–because whatever is resisted persists. Note that this is negative-adorned discipline.

For instance, let’s imagine that you decided to lose a few pounds and consequently started disciplining your eating habits and exercise routine. If you got disciplined to lose weight because you were resisting a heart attack, or you were resisting being fired from a job that required you to be a certain size, you were driven by resistance. This also means that what you didn’t want to happen drove you. However, if you decided to lose weight and got motivated by the desire for better health, your discipline was driven by what you wanted (This is positive-adorned discipline).

In one of these scenarios you focused on what you didn’t want, and in the second, you focused on what you wanted. Note that for the most part, manifestations match the motivations of the discipline.

So, how do you ensure that whatever you are disciplined about will reward you your desired end? Below are a few suggestions to be considered before getting disciplined to pursue any goal.

  1. Decide on what you want in positive terms. Make sure that it is what you really want. You must be clear about the results you want to manifest.
  2. Once you embark on disciplining yourself to pursue your goals, make sure that you focus on your inspiration…what you want. Regardless of what happens during this process, do not let the psychological mind derail you from your positive focus.
  3. Live in the end: meaning that as you take the steps towards achieving a set goal, feel as though you already have what you want, in the now. Make your then, now and your there, here.
  4. Go beyond just disciplining your actions and consider disciplining your mind to religiously focus on what you want.

“Make your then, now and your there, here.”

~ Rev Ike

The next time you decide to get disciplined examine the inspiration behind your decision. Also, if you are one who is energized by productivity and achievement, make sure that your disciplines are based on positive inspirations.

Feeling Weighed Down? How to Rise Up:

donkeyEmotions have a way of reminding us that we are all under the same universal influence….the psychological mind. Apparently, whether you own a bank or your money seems to be playing hide and seek in some unknown place, we all do this thing calling thinking. And the thoughts we dwell on determine how we feel. As soon as you believe a thought, it finds its way into your consciousness and anchors itself in. And it will do its work to manifest itself fully if you give it the attention it needs.

Let’s imagine that you are thinking about an unpleasant experience that happened a day before. If you dwell on these thoughts long enough, you will run all the conversations plus all the details of the event in your mind. And sooner than later, you will experience the same emotions you experienced, if not worse. The more you think about what went wrong, the more you feel weighed down. So, you conclude that you are actually weighed down. But are you really weighed down in the actual realm of things? Yes, you might feel heavy or uncomfortable, but let’s examine this conclusion further.

To begin, what does it really mean to be weighed down? It means that you are carrying something heavier than you are. Okay, let’s further examine these negative thoughts that we conclude weigh us down.

Questions: While these thoughts dwell in our minds, do they really have quantitative weight? Can you put them on a scale to determine their weight?

No, you can not. They are just thoughts whose life and then weight are generated from the attention you give them. The more attention you give them, the more life they have. Yet, both your attention and these thoughts are in you. You are neither. You are the observer of them both. So, do you still believe you are really weighed down? What’s really important in your life if it is not feeling okay no matter what is going on in your world?

You wanna know more? In my book, The Sanity Warrior: Becoming the Authority of Your Experiences, you will not only read real life stories that will inspire you to move forward no matter what, but you will also learn proven psychological tools, among others, to transcend negative thinking and negative feeling.

Remember, effortless progress is achieved when we learn how to raise above the ego and its negative manifestations in our lives.

Winning The Game of Fear: Based on a True Story

getty_sb10064912a-001_98952It was my turn to go. And to go, I mean to walk on the hot, red, shimmering coals spread out in front of me.

It was the year 2015, and I was at a Tony Robbins’, Unleash The Power Within, 3 Days Intensive seminar. Earlier that day, Tony prepared our minds for over 5 hours and assured us that fear is just a thought. And I believed him. I was pumped up, screaming at the top of my voice with others, and I was extremely excited at the chance of walking on those coals without fear stopping me. I knew that I could do it. I was ready to do it, until….until it was my turn to walk across the coals.

Suddenly, I felt paralyzed. I felt as if my blood was boiling and about to explode through my skin. I started visualizing my feet freshly burned to the bones. My mind started presenting many horrifying scenarios that could happen if I walked on the coals. Fear overtook me. Without even realizing I started reversing–walking backwards to run for dear life.

Suddenly, an attendant grabbed my hand before I disappeared into the crowd and persuaded me to walk on the coals. “You can do this. Fear is just a thought, and you are way bigger than it.” She said.

“Don’t think” said the attendant. “Do” She screamed in my face.

downloadAt that point, I stumbled across the hot coals, and at the end of the exercise I felt a sense of thrill, and I was beyond excited. I had done it. I had walked on the hot coals without getting burned. I felt like a hero. So, I lined up and walked on the coals one more time to reinforce my new belief….”I can always win the game of fear if I don’t give it my attention.”

So, if you are afraid to do something that you believe will progress your life, simply deny this fear your attention and move forward. The fear could still prevail in your mind. But don’t let it influence your decisions. Just let it be and turn your attention away from it towards your desired action.

Globally, we are currently faced with the consequences of the coronavirus. And the ego is at work using different channels amidst us to create more fear. As it seems, the fear of this virus is proving to be more impactful than the virus itself. It is my humble opinion that we shouldn’t let fear manipulate our actions. We can still take preventive action without fear.

Remember, fear shadows clarity, corrupts decision making and cripples positive action.

The Art of Perseverance: 6 Tools to Persevere and Keep Moving Forward

Ellen-White-a-model-in-tenacity-and-perseverancePerseverance is a skill that’s vital for success. Without perseverance one is set to give up easily and then move from project to another just because things didn’t work out as they wanted. The most successful people in the world know how it feels to fail repeatedly but keep going no matter what comes their way.

Stories about the Fright brothers, Albert Einstein, Honda, plus many other iconic beings in history, are intended to remind us that perseverance is a necessary skill for success to be attained. Besides, the degree of celebration for any victory generally depends on the energy invested, number of obstacles overcome and the level of perseverance.

Perseverance

I, like most people have had my share of disappointments in my business and life in general: disappointments that have left me feeling beaten and broken to my very core. But the passion I have to achieve my life purpose has energized me to get up, pick up the broken pieces and move forward.

The questions are;

  1. What does it take to persevere through turbulent times?
  2. What does it take not to give up?
  3. Where do you get the drive to keep moving forward when you’ve been disappointed repeatedly?
  4. How do you persevere when you have failed so many times, and consequently believe that you are a failure and will continue to fail?

Perseverance 2

In this video, I share a few personal stories that will inspire you to get up and keep moving forward. I also share 6 tools that will help you do the same.

The tools in summary are:

~ Be clear about what you want to offer and why?

~ Focus on becoming an expert in your field of preference.

  • Use related personal stories to support your credibility
  • Keep researching and learning new information about your field
  • Invest in self-development, coaching and/or counseling.

~ Don’t take things personally. Don’t let other people’s behavior, opinions and perceptions disorient you from pursuing your goals.

~ Focus on what you want religiously

~ Keep taking steps–however small.

~ Don’t give up.

Stressfree

Negative experiences often leave us stressed and worn out. During such times, I find it challenging to refer to any advice about how to keep off the stress. Yet I know I have to dust it off, get my lazy butt off the ground and keep moving forward. How I get up when I feel so overwhelmingly lazy and beaten up by circumstances, is another story.

Below, are 10 things I do when I feel stressed and lazy.  I know they will help you.

  1. Breathe. Just stop often and take long, deep breaths.
  2. Meditate (Listen to this recording for the simple meditation techniques)
  3. Eat raw food as long as it is edible. This is easy because it will save you all the trouble involved in cooking. And the benefits…..magic.
  4. Drink a lot of water. This is an inexpensive and easy way to keep hydrated. The benefits are abundant.
  5. Have long baths
  6. Go for a walk. Note that a walk is easier than a run or weight lifting. So, it should be easy to do. Right?
  7. Listen to music. Suggestion: Listen to soothing and positive music.
  8. Avoid friendships that way you down.
  9. Set simple, short goals. Don’t overwhelm your to-do list with tasks. Keep it simple. Besides, you are so lazy to add more crap to your plate.

Time Management Tips For Entrepreneurs

Dont waste time

If you are an entrepreneur you know how easy it is to get distracted. Unfortunately, we are so accustomed to falling prey of these distractions and hence end up wasting a lot of our valuable time that we could use to execute important tasks to improve our businesses and lives.

Below are a few tips that will help you manage your time more wisely even if you are not an entrepreneur

  1. Prioritize Your Tasks Based On Importance. Time wasters

Establish the one thing that you can accomplish today that will make you feel like you were productive. Complete that task first.

  1. Use “Do Not Disturb” On Your Phone.

Do not disturbIf you have apps on your phone through which you connect with friends and family, such as Whatsapp, update your profile as “do not disturb” during your working hours. Also turn off the notifications’ option from all your apps’ settings. This will help you focus on your tasks uninterrupted by the notifications’ sounds that tend to come in often.

  1. Get a to-do Listprioritize

This is extremely important as it will help you follow through with whatever you have listed. It is also a good tool that you can use to reward yourself especially if you’ve completed all the tasks on the list. Furthermore, if you are extremely busy or forgetful, the to-do list will keep you in check about what you have to accomplish.

  1. Delete Unimportant TasksDelete unimportant lists

If you keep rescheduling a task, perhaps it is not as important as you deemed it to be when you scheduled it. So, it shouldn’t be on your to-do list. If it is, do it or delete it.

  1. Assign Deadlines for Your Tasks

This will help you attend to the due tasks before their deadlines approach. You will be more consistent with your work if you actually stick to your deadlines.

  1. Avoid Time Wasters.

Do fewer things that are not making you productive, such as:

  • Watching non educational television
  • Over planning instead of doing
  • Waiting to be perfect to start tasks
  • Not knowing your priorities
  • Investing your time on face book and other social media, for fun
  • Worrying about what could go wrong
  • Keeping negative friends or staying in negative environments
  • Having no plan about where you want to go.
  • Gossiping
  • Not exercising
  • Exercising bad eating habits that will keep you weak and unfocused.
  1. Make a Procrastination List

No matter who you are, everyone procrastinates in some way. Make a list of important tasks you can work on. Save this list on your phone. Next time you procrastinate, open this list, and start working on one or some of the tasks.

  1. Make a “Waiting for” List

Sometimes we have to wait for certain things to happen before we can take action. For instance; let’s imagine that you need someone to respond in order for you to execute a particular task. Make a waiting list so that you can focus on what you can do now, and what you have to follow up on, so that you don’t forget.

  1. Block out “Me Time”self care

It’s very important to take time to clear your mind and nourish yourself. Make time for meditation or prayer, going to the gym or taking a walk or whatever else makes you feel at peace with yourself. Note that we are more productive when we feel good.

I’m certain that there are many other time management tools that you can employ to be more productive. But the above tips are a great reference.

Become Positively Selfish

Image

Often, we all focus too much on other people’s needs, problems, progress, etc, yet forget our own issues that could need urgent consideration. We then find ourselves so stressed out about other people’s issues, and ironically, ours.

There are times when we’ve got to become positively selfish; meaning that we give ourselves guilty-free permission to focus on ourselves.

Image

In the preceding process, we need to examine our physical, emotional and spiritual beings in order to establish where we need to stretch and heal; or how we can change and grow. Once we are done examining these areas of our lives, we then discover that we actually don’t have a lot of time dealing with other people’s businesses. Also, considering that the better we become, the more attractive we become to ourselves and to the outside world, it is imperative to take time out for ourselves.

 Image

So, how do you become positively selfish?

  1. Establish how you can improve your physical, emotional and spiritual states.
  2. Start out by exercising for at least 20 minutes a day. Remember that exercising releases endorphins that reduce stress.Image
  3. Come up with a simple daily to-do list that indicates the things that you will do to improve or elevate your emotional and spiritual statesImage
  4. Spend at least 10 minutes a day, less of interruptions such as TV, cell phones, and think about the things that you WANT to happen in your life.
  5. ImageRead an empowerment or self-help book for at least 15 minutes every night before you go to sleep. Try Do Not Force It, Tap The Good: an inspirational philosophical book that shares lessons the whole world can live by. Image

You can take charge of your life my friend by focusing on yourself. Remember that we all deserve to be on top of our game.
