7 MENTAL TOOLS TO SURVIVE CHALLENGING TIMES

I will not be stopped

Of late, turbulent times seem to be more common than peaceful times. The main, yet less obvious reason for experiencing turbulent times is because we’ve let the external world and whatever happens in it to determine the way we feel. The first step then, is to take full responsibility of the way we feel and then tap into our inexhaustible mental resources in order to get a grip of our feelings. Once we are less attached to our experiences or needs/wants, we access our inbuilt God-given clarity and enthusiasm to pursue our goals without the related stress

In this video, I share 7 mental tools that are guaranteed to help you survive challenging times. Read them, identify those tools that you relate to the most, embrace, then employ them to help you get a grip of your mind, strengthen it, then move past the challenges.

10 Things To Do When You Feel Frustrated With Life

Frustrate

Although there are many reasons that incite our frustrations, the main reasons are founded on two major factors: money and relationships.

We get frustrated because we either don’t have money, we are losing money or money is not coming in as expected. We also get frustrated because of the people we deal with: especially because we are all different and view the world from a diverse perspective.

One thing I have learned is that the factors that promote our negative emotions, plus the negative emotions are not as crucial in influencing our emotional well-being as our perception about them. As such, my intention is to share 10 tips that you can use to get out of a frustrated mood regardless of the foundation of your frustrations. Remember,  it is not what happens to us that impacts our lives; it’s how we perceive whatever happens.

  1. Move

By moving, I mean, changing your physicality. Do yoga, dance, go for a walk, exercise: the idea is to get your body moving. Once your body is moving, your brain will change its focus from the frustration to whatever you are doing.

move

“The difference between peak performance and poor performance is not intelligence or ability; most often it’s the state that your mind and body is in.” – Tony Robbins

Note that emotion is created by motion. In other words, emotions are linked to movement in our bodies. Observe your posture when you are happy, as opposed to when you are sad — or what you look like when you are angry, versus when you are elated.

  1. Listen To Inspirational Or Upbeat Music.

I understand that sometimes when you are feeling frustrated or sad you don’t have the guts to listen to anything. But if you are so sick and tired of feeling negative you will do whatever it takes to feel better. Some of the songs I listen to when I’m sad include, but are not limited to the following:

  • The Storm is Over – R Kelley

  • A New Day Has Come – Celine Dion

  • Roar – Katy Perry

  • Departed (Right Here) – Brandy

  • I look to You – Whitney Houston

  • I’m Your Angel – Celine Dion and R Kelly

  • When You Believe – Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey

  • Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson

  • One Step at a Time – Jordan Sparks

Note that it is important to spend time making your own list.

         3. Clean

Cleaning your space has a magical way of making you feel better. As you clean, your mind goes into the cleaning mood.  As such, you implicitly clean the frustration from your mind.

Clean

  1. Imagine receiving $1 Million in your bank account; make a list of how you would spend it.

Imagine

  1. Cook

Just go into your kitchen and concoct recipes regardless of what you are cooking. The process will definitely help you divert your mind from the frustration.

Cook

  1. Change your furniture around. Don’t try to be perfect. Just change things around in whichever way you want.

  1. Go window shopping

  1. Meditate.

  1. Volunteer

This will help you realize how blessed you are.

  1. Make big plans.

Just make plans without worrying about the resources required to realize them. Make plans as you focus on the things you want to manifest in your life—imagining that there are no obstacles that can hinder you from achieving your goals.

Conclusion:

Remember that the difference between where you are emotionally or mentally, and where you want to be, is only a decision away. Once you decide to change your mind about anything, you have literally embarked on a profound journey of getting to your desired destination.

5 Things to Help One Deal with a Chaotic Day

What does a chaotic day look like?

Chaos

Let’s imagine that your day seems to be getting worse with every ticking minute. It could be that since you got out of bed, everything seems to be working against you. Maybe the dog is sick, you aren’t feeling well yourself, you’ve called in sick to rest if you are employed, or canceled all your day’s appointments if you are self-employed. Let’s further imagine that all the major appliances in your house stop functioning due to an electric mishap, and you have to deal with your homeowners’ insurance company’s bureaucracy to get things fixed. Let’s also imagine that you had a horrible fight with your partner, your kids are sick, and a creditor made a mistake and double charged your account. Hence, you are short on cash. To make things worse, as you pull it together to go out of the house and solve some of these challenges, you discover that you have a flat tire; and you have absolutely no idea how to change a flat tire.

What do you do??

These are days that test our patience and force us to go within and retrieve our emotional and intellectual weapons. However, the great news is that no matter how bad the day seems, there is a part of you that remains untouched by the situation. That part, my friend, is your mind. You can use your mind to emotionally and mentally rise above any challenges regardless of how bad they seem: and this brings me to the 5 things you can do to deal with a chaotic day.

  1. Slow down.

    slowing-down

This means that take your time as you resolve every issue, one after another without trying to chunk them up. Make a to-do list as things to do begin presenting themselves. Focus on one thing at a time. This will help you stay on top of the issues that are resolved, and the ones that need more time or resources.  A to-do list also has a way of making us feel accomplished as we mark off every task that we finish.

  1. Remember to Breathe.

    Breathe

By deep breathing you relax, which then gives you the clarity to deal with the issues you have at hand.

  1. Put on soothing music.

    Soothing music

Let soothing or relaxing music play in the background, and your brain will start picking up on the musical notes which will then help you relax.

  1. Drink a lot of water.

    graphic_drinkingwater

The benefits of drinking water, especially in stressful situations, are obvious. Drinking a lot of water will keep you hydrated, focused and energetic.

  1. Don’t call anyone to tell them what you are going through.

When you call your friends or loved ones and start telling them what you are going through, firstly, you are wasting time. Secondly, they might make things feel worse for you. Therefore, trust yourself and know that you have the mental and emotional resources within you to solve the chaos. The only exception is if you are calling for professional help. As a matter of fact, if you receive a call amidst the chaos, don’t engage them, ask to call them back.

Remember, there is nothing out of yourself that has the power to disorient you. As long as you are still conscious, you can still tap into your internal resources to resolve any challenges. Furthermore, nothing lasts forever. Maintain your calm. Don’t worry. Everything will soon get back to normal. And even if it doesn’t, you have the human spirit that is always unconditionally fired up with the powers of perseverance, patience, and faith.

“A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence; that’s very important for good health.” Dalai Lama

Feeling Stressed Out? Three Tips to Inspire You

I recently went through an experience that left me feeling beaten and broken. I felt as if I was behind a curtain. I felt as if my true intentions weren’t understood. I felt betrayed, weak and discouraged. I felt misjudged, isolated and rejected.

Now, you will agree that such feelings can leave one in a state of emotional warfare. Yet I knew that I had to get up. I knew that I couldn’t control anyone else but myself. I had to take my power back, and determine the way I wanted to feel regardless of what anyone else thought or felt about me. I had to continue following my dreams, and focusing on my goals. I had to feel good again which is the only way that would enable me to wake up and try at this thing called life. I needed inspiration to keep going .

In this video, I share three tips that I employed to feel inspired. I hope they help you feel inspired. Please share the video with anyone you know needs some inspiration today.

7 Ways to Heal Stress – In Celebration of March 1st, Global Worry-free Day

stress

Of late, with all the negativity and confusion in our environment, it’s hard not to get overwhelmed. Between juggling work, family, and other commitments, you can become too stressed out and busy. However, we need to set time aside to unwind, or our mental and physical health can be compromised.

Learning how to manage stress takes practice, but you can, and need to.

According to an article on WebMB, below are 7 ways to make it easier.

Stress

  • Keep a positive and happy attitude by focusing on what you want, and being grateful for what you have.
  • Surround yourself with positive, happy people. Remember that we are the sum total of the people we hang out with the most.
  • Stand up for yourself in a polite way: be assertive. This means that you speak your truth clearly without being dramatic.
  • Learn and practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation and going into nature.
  • Exercise regularly; this can include taking a walk, biking, swimming or cleaning your house.
  • On a daily basis, eat healthy by including vegetables and fruits in your diet.
  • Try to manage your time wisely. “What-to-do” lists are very effective in helping us manage our time and organizing our lives.

Remember that we are the masters of our lives. We are own rescues. We have to take full responsibility for our wellbeing.

March 1st, 7.00a.m – 7.00.p.m is Global Worry-free day…your time zone. A few things that you could do that include, but are not limited to: volunteering; taking a homeless person for a meal; buying shoes for a stranger who doesn’t have shoes; offering to clean out your church; compiling and singing an inspirational song about not worrying and posting it on your social network (Note: you don’t really have to be a singer to compile the song, or sing it.); visiting a children’s hospital; buying flowers and giving one to 10 random ladies of your choice; cleaning out your closet and donating to charity; paying for someone’s groceries…etc. The idea is to do whatever is positive to stay away from worrying. And this can be achieved by being grateful for what you have and searching for ways to give back.

Please post your pictures and stories on this feed to inspire others to do the same.
