What to do When You Feel Uninspired

inspire

How often do you feel uninspired?

What do you do when you keep procrastinating just because you don’t feel the urge to get started on a particular project?

What can you do to inspire yourself?

There are times when I have had projects to pursue: times when I know exactly what to do, how to do it, plus have the resources needed to get started. But for some reason, I couldn’t get started because I felt so uninspired.

Most times it is because my mind is stuck on what things are supposed to be, or shouldn’t be. Other times, I’m thinking about what’s wrong and how wrong it could get. And that’s how the matrix holds each of us captive. We find ourselves knowing what to do and not doing it. It is like you are aware that fire burns but you keep playing with it. You are aware that when you don’t take action nothing will be accomplished, but you don’t take action. What kind of BS is that? lol.

The underlying reason is because we are afraid. Note that we are either hosts of progress or hostages of fear. If your fear doesn’t drive you, you are its hostage.

One of the ways to snap out of this mind block is to inspire ourselves. However, how do you inspire yourself when you don’t want to do anything? Apparently, you’ve consciously and/or subconsciously driven yourself into this emotional/mental mess. This also implies that if you feel lethargic, and you have lost the grip on how to get out. Yet, it is still up to you to get your stressed-behind out of this mess.  What do you do?

Here are a few steps to get you started on inspiring yourself.

  1. Know that it is your responsibility to feel good and inspired. Remove the blame from anything or anyone out of yourself. Get a grip of your mind and make it your hostage. Direct your mind to do what you want instead of the other way round. Talk yourself into taking full responsibility of your emotions.
  2. Remember, or find your why. Go back to the drawing board of why you want to accomplish that goal. For instance, during days when I don’t feel like writing or making videos to inspire my audience, I remember why–which is my life purpose. I know that when I inspire others through the different ways I do, this is the time I feel alive the most. Therefore, find your why.
  3. Meditate. Yes, meditate. Some people think that meditation is for monks. But I attest to the power of meditation. Meditation has helped me overcome some of the ugliest situations in my life. Meditation has rewarded me with a lot of clarity, enthusiasm and unconditional inner peace. It’s mainly through meditation that I get the ideas I write, and record about. The benefits of meditation are inexhaustible. To get started, you can check out my simple morning meditations on gratitude and divine love. The links are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgMpYijDTjU  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk7JhGZOZvU I also suggest that you start your day off with meditating. It makes all the positive difference.

  4. Exercise: Once you change your physiology, your mood will change. Stand up, stretch, stand in your power pause, go for a walk, do yoga or whatever you can to get moving. This will amplify the production of your happy hormones and then get you inspired to take action.
  5. Listen to affirmations. Here are a few I’ve recorded. Links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHyp6f8_jp4   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXf_l7hpFqw
  6. Listen to your favorite music.

rejection

Do you feel stuck?

Do you feel as if life itself doesn’t want you to live it?

Do you feel as though you probably made a contract with the devil itself?

Have you gone through some things that have left you feeling broken?

Have you tried everything to elevate your life and failed?

Then, this prayer might help. Many times when we are stuck and feel as if we are imprisoned within our very beings, we might be attached to dark energies or connected to negative karma. 5 Things to Help One Deal with a Chaotic Day

What does a chaotic day look like?

Chaos

Let’s imagine that your day seems to be getting worse with every ticking minute. It could be that since you got out of bed, everything seems to be working against you. Maybe the dog is sick, you aren’t feeling well yourself, you’ve called in sick to rest if you are employed, or canceled all your day’s appointments if you are self-employed. Let’s further imagine that all the major appliances in your house stop functioning due to an electric mishap, and you have to deal with your homeowners’ insurance company’s bureaucracy to get things fixed. Let’s also imagine that you had a horrible fight with your partner, your kids are sick, and a creditor made a mistake and double charged your account. Hence, you are short on cash. To make things worse, as you pull it together to go out of the house and solve some of these challenges, you discover that you have a flat tire; and you have absolutely no idea how to change a flat tire.

What do you do??

These are days that test our patience and force us to go within and retrieve our emotional and intellectual weapons. However, the great news is that no matter how bad the day seems, there is a part of you that remains untouched by the situation. That part, my friend, is your mind. You can use your mind to emotionally and mentally rise above any challenges regardless of how bad they seem: and this brings me to the 5 things you can do to deal with a chaotic day.

  1. Slow down.

    slowing-down

This means that take your time as you resolve every issue, one after another without trying to chunk them up. Make a to-do list as things to do begin presenting themselves. Focus on one thing at a time. This will help you stay on top of the issues that are resolved, and the ones that need more time or resources.  A to-do list also has a way of making us feel accomplished as we mark off every task that we finish.

  1. Remember to Breathe.

    Breathe

By deep breathing you relax, which then gives you the clarity to deal with the issues you have at hand.

  1. Put on soothing music.

    Soothing music

Let soothing or relaxing music play in the background, and your brain will start picking up on the musical notes which will then help you relax.

  1. Drink a lot of water.

    graphic_drinkingwater

The benefits of drinking water, especially in stressful situations, are obvious. Drinking a lot of water will keep you hydrated, focused and energetic.

  1. Don’t call anyone to tell them what you are going through.

When you call your friends or loved ones and start telling them what you are going through, firstly, you are wasting time. Secondly, they might make things feel worse for you. Therefore, trust yourself and know that you have the mental and emotional resources within you to solve the chaos. The only exception is if you are calling for professional help. As a matter of fact, if you receive a call amidst the chaos, don’t engage them, ask to call them back.

Remember, there is nothing out of yourself that has the power to disorient you. As long as you are still conscious, you can still tap into your internal resources to resolve any challenges. Furthermore, nothing lasts forever. Maintain your calm. Don’t worry. Everything will soon get back to normal. And even if it doesn’t, you have the human spirit that is always unconditionally fired up with the powers of perseverance, patience, and faith.

“A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence; that’s very important for good health.” Dalai Lama

How to Connect to The Right Friends

As a teenager, connecting to the right friends was one of my biggest challenges.

I grew up with my mom in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, and my mom was very strict about how we chose friends since most of our neighbor’s teenagers had become pregnant, escaped from their homes and/or got involved in other inappropriate activities. I disliked my mom. In my little mind, I thought she was blocking my freedom to have as many friends as I wanted. But as an adult now, I appreciate her a lot. It is because of her strategies to keep us safe from the turbulent environment in which we were in, that I and my siblings were able to complete school without getting into trouble.

By following some of the strategies that I learned from my mom, and some as a transformational coach, I’ve been able to connect to and choose the right friends over the years.

Here are some of the tips that you can use to connect to the right friends.

1. Become your own best friend.
Before you can understand what friendship really means, you have to love and appreciate everything about yourself, including your flaws. You have to be your own best friend. If you don’t like yourself, you will always look for validation from your friends to define who you are. And that will be disappointing because no one has the power to define who you should be, or how you should feel about yourself. It’s up to each one of us to determine who we should be, and how we should feel. Therefore, be your best friend first, such that when you connect to friends, you are not looking for validation. You love yourself as you are.

2. Define what friendship means to you.
It is extremely important to establish what you want to achieve from whatever you do. It’s about being purposeful. Defining what friendship means to you implies that you establish what you expect from friends; what they should expect from you as a friend, and what you will not tolerate from them. This also means that you have to develop personal values and standards below which you won’t be anyone’s friend. For instance; since you are already your own best friend, you have to know how to be friendly to yourself. This means that you respect your body by eating the right foods; you exercise and do not indulge in anything that would abuse your body—such as drugs and/or immature sex. You keep your word. You communicate clearly about what you want and don’t want, assertively. You respect your parents/elders. You keep your environment clean and safe. In a nutshell, you love yourself. As a result, you seek to connect with friends who also love themselves and most importantly, friends who will not negatively affect your self-love. They respect and appreciate who you are. They don’t try to influence you, except if it is for positive change.

3. Become friendly.
If you want to connect to friends you have to be friendly. This means that you don’t make judgments about others because of their looks, origin, social group or religion. You communicate to others freely and attentively as you take the time to examine if these people also love themselves. You become present with people—meaning that you listen attentively to everyone you meet before you determine if that person could be a friend.

I believe that if you embrace these tips, or even add other personal tips that you’ve learned, you will be able to connect to good friends.
